YBhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin @ Md Daud, Mayor of Ipoh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tetra Pak (M) Sdn. Bhd. to promote the Circular Economy (C.E), emphasizing resource reuse and waste prevention. Ipoh City Council aims to become a smart, low-carbon city by 2030, with a goal to reduce carbon emissions by 45% through circular economy activities. Partnerships with industry players, such as Edsha Solutions, Biovisma, Tuck Soon, and Thowlee Recycle, have led to significant waste collection and carbon reduction achievements.
As of June 2024, E-Waste collection reached 312 metric tons, used cooking oil 341 metric tons, and used tires 5242 metric tons, significantly reducing carbon footprints. The council also collaborated with Tetra Pak on beverage carton recycling, engaging schools and collecting 100 kg of cartons. The initiative aims to involve all 153 schools in Ipoh, starting with 40 primary schools under the ‘CAREton’ project to foster environmental awareness among students.
These efforts align with Ipoh’s vision of becoming a smart and sustainable city by 2030, with the ultimate goal of achieving a 45% carbon reduction. The council thanks Tetra Pak for their cooperation and hopes this partnership continues to thrive.
