In today’s fast-changing healthcare environment, the role of a hospital’s Board of Visitors (BOV) (Ahli Lembaga Pelawat) is crucial in building strong ties between the hospital and its surrounding community. As mandated by Ministry of Health (MOH), Section 104 of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 [Act 586], private hospitals with 50 or more beds are required to establish a BOV. Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Board of Visitors on the three-year term, chaired by Datuk Hj Mohamed Odman. The esteemed board also comprises Dato’ Hj Azizul Kama, Dato’ Wan Azahari, Mr. Shanker Retinam and Mr. Hanson Lau—renowned leaders in their respective fields.

These distinguished members bring a wealth of experience and knowledge, playing an active role in strengthening the connection between PCSH and the community. Their involvement ensures that the hospital’s facilities and services are effectively communicated to the public, enhancing community engagement and trust.

The Board of Visitors has successfully initiated several community health screenings in Manjung, Ayer Tawar and Sitiawan. Through these community programmes, BOV has effectively raised awareness about the importance of maintaining each individual’s health and the necessity of regular medical check-ups, underscoring the principle that “prevention is better than cure”.

The BOV members regularly visit wards, acting as a liaison between the hospital and patients, ensuring that the hospital’s services and policies align with the patients’ needs and expectations. In addition to providing valuable insights to hospital management for future reference and improvement, the BOV members also bring joy to children in Paediatric Wards by cheering them up with gifts and goodies, as well as congratulating proud parents of newly born festive babies, helping to brighten the mood.

Their personal engagement adds a human touch, making initiatives more impactful. As an essential part of the team, the BOV helps the hospital maintain high standards and ensure that services are tailored to meet the real needs of patients and their families. Thanks to their ongoing support and involvement, the BOV helps ensure that PCSH continues to be a modern multi-disciplinary hospital providing affordable quality healthcare services.
