YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government, officiated the Handover Ceremony for the Upgrading Project of Jalan Medan Ipoh 2.
The event was also attended by YB Jenny Choi Tsi Jen, State Assemblywoman for Canning and Deputy Speaker of the Perak State Assembly, YB Howard Lee Chuan How, Member of Parliament for Ipoh Timur, and Tuan Ahmad Munir bin Ishak, City Secretary.
This project, costing RM478,028.40, was approved under the BP.1 allocation by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) in 2024.
The project is not merely focused on physical infrastructure but serves as a strategic solution. Based on detailed traffic studies, Jalan Medan Ipoh 2 has evolved into a major access route for residents and visitors to the surrounding commercial and residential areas.
Before this project began, numerous complaints were received regarding potholes that posed dangers to road users, stagnant water during the rainy season, and a lack of parking in the area. These issues stemmed from the road not being paved and an inefficient traffic flow system.
Through this 710-meter road upgrading project, several key improvements were carried out, including:
-
Road widening and traffic lane reconfiguration;
-
Resurfacing to provide a smoother road surface;
-
Reorganization of parking spaces to prevent roadside parking issues;
-
Upgrading of streetlights to LED systems to enhance road safety, especially at night.
For this purpose, an additional RM483,197.80 was also allocated under BP.1 by KPKT in 2024, involving the upgrade of 259 streetlights in the Medan Ipoh area, including Jalan Burung Belibis, to LED lighting systems. This reflects the government’s Madani commitment to ensuring better and more environmentally friendly street lighting.
Moreover, this upgrading project aims to improve road safety by reducing the risk of accidents caused by potholes, and to support the economic and social development of the Medan Ipoh commercial area, for the well-being and comfort of nearby residents and the people of Ipoh.
As a continuation of this initiative, the Minister also announced another upcoming road upgrade project at Jalan Medan Ipoh 6, which will include the addition of more parking spaces.
This effort is intended to meet the growing parking needs, and most importantly, to repair damaged and uneven roads. In addition, under the BP.1 allocation, several roads in the Medan Ipoh area will also undergo resurfacing works involving a total cost of RM1,374,000.00 for projects on 7 different roads covering a total length of 3.125 kilometers.
The roads involved are as follows:
-
Jalan Medan Ipoh Service Road 2
-
Jalan Medan Ipoh 1
-
Jalan Medan Ipoh 11
-
Jalan Medan Ipoh 6 Service Road
-
Jalan Medan Ipoh 6
-
Jalan Medan Ipoh 6 Service Road 1
-
Lebuh Medan
This effort is expected not only to reduce the issue of limited parking, but also to ensure a safer and more comfortable driving experience for road users with smooth and even road surfaces.
