Over 3,000 Ipoh residents gathered for the 64th Ipoh Low Carbon Day event, which carried the theme #FitMalaysia in celebration of National Sports Day. The program commenced with the Geopark 5Run, a 5km run organized by the Perak State Park Corporation, coinciding with the 5th anniversary of the Perak State Geopark’s establishment.

Starting from Dataran Ipoh, the run passed through the heart of Ipoh, concluding at Dataran Ipoh, a Geopark location in the city. The event was graced by the presence of His Royal Highness Raja Muda Perak Darul Ridzuan, Raja Jaafar, and His Royal Highness Raja Di-Hilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain, who inaugurated the International Geopark Run (IGR) Series 0.1, 2024 Lembah Kinta.

The IGR Series, an annual event, will span various geopark locations nationwide, beginning in Lembah Kinta, Ipoh, in 2024. Distinguished guests included the Chief Minister of Perak, the Speaker of the Perak State Assembly, and the Secretary to the Perak State Government.

The Geopark 5 Run @ Ipoh Low Carbon Day (5km) served as a platform to promote IGR for the upcoming Visit Perak Year 2024 (VPY 2024) calendar, starting in March 2024.

This event aimed to involve the Ipoh community, especially in social activities, sharing beneficial knowledge through various exhibition booths. These booths demonstrated useful practices such as recycling used cooking oil, weaving and sewing, crafting souvenirs from discarded materials, identifying medicines, and displaying handcrafted art from participating associations and NGOs.

In alignment with the goal of reducing carbon emissions by 2030, the Ipoh City Council became the first local authority in Perak to use electric motorcycles as a ‘Prove Of Concept’ with two units donated by Blueshark (M). This not only helps save operating and maintenance costs but also reduces air pollution caused by gasoline-powered motorcycles, aligning with the city’s ‘Low Carbon,’ ‘Walkable City 2023,’ and ‘Smart City’ vision.

The event concluded with the departure of His Royal Highness Raja Muda and His Royal Highness Raja Di-Hilir, followed by prize presentations for the Geopark 5Run participants, officiated by the Mayor
