The Ipoh City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh – MBI), through its Parks and Landscape Department, has received the Honour Award in the Green Initiatives Award – Government Sector category at the 15th Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards (MLAA). The recognition was awarded for MBI’s project titled “Bamboo: A Sustainable Solution for Green Landscape.”

This award reflects MBI’s ongoing commitment to implementing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in creating sustainable urban landscapes. The project highlights bamboo as a sustainable alternative material, not only used in landscape furniture but also integrated with shade tree planting. This approach helps absorb carbon, enhances urban biodiversity, and mitigates the urban heat island effect.

The recognition acknowledges that modern landscape architecture now goes beyond aesthetics to include ecological functions and environmental responsibility—aligning with growing public awareness about climate change, biodiversity loss, and the need for nature-balanced development.

The award was presented by Dato’ LAr. Ismail Ngah, former President of the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM), honoring MBI’s leadership in advancing comprehensive and progressive nature-based landscape solutions.

MBI extended its gratitude to all staff, strategic partners, and the community for their support and teamwork in achieving this success. The council hopes this milestone will further accelerate efforts to realize its vision of making Ipoh a Smart and Sustainable City by 2030, rooted in innovation, sustainability, and well-being for all.
