A momentous event unfolded at the heart of Perkampungan Orang Asli Sungai Tisong in Sungkai, Perak. This impactful occasion was the result of a collaborative effort between two three esteemed organizations: Legal Aid Centre/Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (LAC/YBGK) Perak Sub Committee of the Perak Bar, Bar Council Committee on Orang Asli Rights, and the dedicated Perak Women for Women Society (PWW).

Designed with a profound purpose, the program aimed to illuminate the legal landscape for the Orang Asli community, shedding light on their inherent rights and privileges. At its core, the event sought to acquaint the indigenous community with the invaluable resources provided by LAC/YBGK Perak. Esteemed figures graced the occasion with their presence and knowledge: Miss Siera Sacha Abu Bakar from the Bar Council Committee on Orang Asli Rights (COAR), Mr Saravanan Muthuveeran from LAC/YBGK Perak panel lawyer, Mrs Vasanthi Ambikapathi from PWW and Mrs ‘Awatif Bashir the Chairman of LAC/YBGK Perak. They took the opportunity to enlighten the gathered Orang Asli and villagers on how they can access complimentary legal services, effectively breaking down barriers to justice.

The event’s resounding success was palpable, evident in the enthusiastic participation of approximately 100 Orang Asli attendees, representing not only the host village but also neighboring settlements. The impact was further amplified by the active involvement of a dedicated legal contingent, including 20 lawyers from LAC/YBGK Perak, together with Seira Sacha and Siti Kassim, from COAR.
