With the home crowd backing them, they managed to win through a quick succession of goals to win by an emphatic margin.
The Man of the Match award went to Shello Silverius who scored two goals. Tomorrow, they will have to beat South Africa who lead 1-0 to advance.
With Japan and Korea leading the top two positions on the table, a win against Japan on Monday is a must.
Malaysian coach, Anthoni Arul expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his charges tonight.
“Nothing is too late as there is less recovery time tomorrow against South Africa. The players did a lot of work today. They enjoyed the tournament and worked hard,” said a relieved Arul at the after match press conference.
Earlier, Pakistan took to the field facing Korea in the fourth game of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
Having dropped points against Japan yesterday, they needed all three points to secure a higher finishing.
Pakistan went into a solitary lead going into halftime with the fine weather allowing an attacking game by both sides.
However, Korea came charging back to equalise through a penalty corner by Kim Hyeonhong and another goal within a minute by Kim again to make it 2-1 lead and holding on for the win till the final whistle. Kim was also named Man-of-the Match.
The second match of the evening saw Japan taking on South Africa who received the first penalty of the tournament to convert.
However, Japan equalised through a penalty corner shortly afterwards going into the break. Subsequently, scoring two goals to go 3-1 up.
Their fourth goal came from a fast counter attack from the right flank making the score 4-1.
With six minutes on the clock South Africa pulled another goal back to settle for a scoreline of 4-2.
