Organised by the Lions Club of Ipoh Heritage in collaboration with the Ave Maria Convent Ipoh Alumni Association and several supporting organisations, the “Better Hearing & Health Care Day 2026” will be held on Sunday, 24 May 2026, from 10.00am to 3.00pm at the Dato’Chin Pek Soo Hall, Ave Maria Convent Secondary School, Ipoh. The event is open to the public free of charge.
In a statement, the organising committee said the event is held in conjunction with Better Hearing and Speech Month in May, with the aim of raising public awareness on hearing health, mental wellness, and the importance of early screening for chronic diseases, while promoting the concept of “early detection, early intervention”.
Various free health screening and consultation services will be available throughout the event, including mental health consultation, otoscopy ear checks, vision screening, dental checks, electrocardiogram (ECG) screening, as well as blood glucose and blood pressure tests.
In addition, a blood donation campaign will also be held with the support of the blood bank unit from Hospital Batu Gajah, in hopes of encouraging more members of the public to donate blood and help patients in need.
As part of the programme, a hearing aid donation ceremony will also be conducted. Applications for hearing aid assistance under the B40 community category will be opened during the event to assist individuals with moderate to severe hearing loss in obtaining suitable hearing aids to improve their communication abilities and quality of life.
The organisers stated that many senior citizens and individuals with hearing impairment often delay treatment due to financial difficulties. Through this assistance initiative, they hope more people in need can receive proper support and regain confidence in their social and daily lives.
Children’s colouring competitions and emergency response equipment demonstrations will also be held to encourage families to participate while learning more about health and safety awareness.
During the opening ceremony, ENT specialist Dr Chow Xiao Hong (Nicole) will be invited to deliver a health talk and share important information on ear health and hearing care with the public.
