Some 3,500 runners will converge at the city to participate in the Ipoh International Run 2024 which kicks off at Indera Mulia Stadium on July 28.
Among them are 57 foreign competitors from Singapore, China, Japan, Brunei, Denmark, Netherlands, Hong Kong and Kenya, of which 42 men and 15 women will race in the “A” and “B” category respectively.
The run is making a comeback after seven years, and Kenyan runners are expected to dominate the race.
The run was last held in 2017 and the following year could not be held due to Sukma Games.
The following years it could not be organised due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The run is jointly organised by the Ipoh City Council and Ashkhu Glow Event Management and divided into 15 categories with distances of 5km, 10km and 21km.
A total of RM14,800 in prize money awaits the winners.
There will be lucky draws and sales of various items.
This year runners will get to enjoy coconut for hydration proposes.
Former national athletes Samson Vellabouy and high jumper Loo Kum Zee are ambassadors for the race.
