Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Syarikat Maju Perak Utilities for the establishment of the ADTREC Drive-Thru Recycling Center. The MOU was signed by Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud, the Mayor of Ipoh, representing MBI, and Puan Nor Nabila Shahira Binti Md Zaini, Director of Syarikat Maju Perak Utilities, witnessed by Y.Bhg. Dato’ Mazlan bin Abd. Rahman, MBI’s Chief WHIP Council Member.

This collaboration aims to enhance recycling efforts in line with the Ministry of Local Government Development’s goal of creating 100 Drive-Thru Recycling Centers (DTRC) across the country. As of now, 104 DTRCs have been established nationwide. The first ADTREC Trash4Cash center was launched in March 2023 in Manjoi, followed by a second in April 2024 at Taman Meru Community Hall.

Through the Trash4Cash program, nearly 95,000 kg of recyclable materials were collected door-to-door, with an additional 8,570 kg collected at ADTREC, resulting in a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 283,973 kg CO2.

MBI encourages other corporate entities to join in these environmental sustainability efforts by establishing more ADTREC centers, which support the transition from a linear to a circular economy as outlined in the 12th Malaysia Plan. These initiatives are part of MBI’s commitment to achieving a “Smart and Green City” by 2030 and promoting a recycling culture within the community.
