The Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC) project is expected to attract up to RM72 billion in investments over the next 25 years, positioning Perak as a leading regional maritime and industrial hub.
Perak Menteri Besar YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad stated that LuMIC will be developed in phases and is projected to create over 50,000 job opportunities and open up new avenues for local entrepreneurs and traders.
“This initiative aligns with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan under Flagship 13: Maritime and Port Hub, aiming to make Perak a competitive, sustainable, and strategic investment destination in the region,” he said.
He added that LuMIC will also enhance public infrastructure, including transport systems and educational facilities, improving the overall quality of life.
He was speaking at the LuMIC Feasibility Study Presentation by the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) and Port of Antwerp Bruges International (PoABI) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
Also present were state officials, PoABI and Eurocham Malaysia representatives, the EU Delegation to Malaysia, and senior government department heads.
Dato’ Seri Saarani further shared that the 23,000-acre development will include eco-friendly industrial zones and a sustainable smart city.
He highlighted that the implementation of the national RDICE roadmap (Research, Development, Innovation, Commercialisation and Economy) is expected to raise the marine and maritime sector’s contribution to GDP from 21.3% to 31.5% by 2030, equivalent to RM1.4 trillion.
“In 2023 alone, Perak contributed 22.8% to the nation’s total fisheries output,” he said.
