In 2024, Taiping is gearing up to celebrate its remarkable 150th founding anniversary, a momentous occasion for both its residents and all Malaysians. Despite facing challenges, Taiping has solidified its position in the national economy, showcasing resilience and prosperity.
To immortalize Chinese culture and preserve Taiping’s historical significance, “Truth Media” and the “Filial Piety Culture Foundation” collaborated on the Taiping at 150 – “Past and Present” commemorative book. This meticulously curated collection covers various aspects of Taiping’s history through interviews, surveys, research, and exploration.
Scheduled for release in August 2024, with a launch and commendation banquet in September, the book symbolizes reflection on the past and anticipation for the future. The editorial team of “Truth Media” has been actively gathering content since June, with a press conference on November 17 marking the official start of the project at Taiping Sentral Mall.
Esteemed guests, including local officials, legislators, and prominent figures, attended the press conference, witnessed by over 190 participants from diverse community organizations. Supporting units for the book, including the Taiping Municipal Council and cultural associations, signed a memorandum of cooperation.
Ms. Lim Hooi Hia, founder and editor-in-chief of “Truth Media,” highlighted the comprehensive nature of the book, covering diverse perspectives from high-ranking officials to the daily lives of ordinary citizens. She encouraged the local community to contribute to the book, urging residents and contributors to recommend themselves or others.
The book boasts honorary advisors from various fields, ensuring accuracy. Notable figures include Chairman of the Centre For Malaysian Chinese Studies Mr. Yau Teck Kong, Chancellor of University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ewe Hong Tat, Vice-Chancellor/CEO of New Era University College Mok Soon Chong, Associate Professor and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Technology and Built Environment at UCSI University Teoh Chee Keong, Executive Director of Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad Mr. Wong Khang Yen, President of Taiping Hokkien Association Mr. Teoh Ah Ba, President of Kwang Tung Association North Perak Taiping Dato Lee Aik Kheow DPMP AMP, and President of Taiping Chinese Assembly Hall Mr. Tan Chee Fatt.
