During this month’s Bougainvillea City Dementia Café gathering, stand-up comedians from Parti Komedi Rakyat came from Kuala Lumpur to douse the café in vibrant colors, with their aim being to empower the lives of everyone in the audience to the fullest by giving them a laugh. As the saying goes, laughter is the best medicine!

With musical comedian Saiful Onisan on the guitar, he along with Juliana Heng and Abby Thangiah delivered hearty and humorous songs for the audience to sing along to. Listeners were also asked to draw some different types of food on a board as part of a game they had prepared to interact with the audience.

Recognizing the therapeutic value of reminiscing, Ms. Juliana skillfully incorporated photographs of historical locations and events to spark nostalgic conversations among the dementia patients. This lighthearted discussion focused on the Merdeka Generation, inviting everyone to share their personal experiences and memories associated with the country’s independence. From reminiscing about where they were when the news was announced to recalling moments spent listening to the radio, the atmosphere was filled with heartfelt stories and shared laughter.
