The Oath-Taking Ceremony for the Appointment of Ipoh City Council (MBI) Members for the 16 March 2026 to 15 March 2028 term was successfully held today at the Ipoh City Council Meeting Hall.
The ceremony was officiated by YB Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, Chairman of the Perak State Housing and Local Government Committee, together with the Mayor of Ipoh, Zamakhshari bin Hanipah. Also present were Members of Parliament, State Assembly Members, the City Secretary, and Heads of Departments.
In her speech, YB Sandrea Ng Shy Ching emphasized that the appointment is not merely an honour, but a significant responsibility that requires strong commitment, discipline, and accountability. She highlighted that decisions made at the local council level have a direct impact on the daily lives of the people.
She urged council members to serve as effective bridges between the government and the community by actively engaging with the public, understanding local issues, and addressing complaints in a proactive, consistent, and effective manner. She stressed that the public evaluates the government based on tangible solutions rather than plans alone.
As the largest local authority and the only city council in Perak, MBI plays a crucial leadership role in urban governance and service delivery. YB Sandrea Ng Shy Ching called for continuous improvements in administrative efficiency and service quality to set a benchmark for other local authorities.
She also highlighted the high expectations of the public in areas such as cleanliness, infrastructure maintenance, public lighting, and waste management, emphasizing the need for prompt follow-up actions, continuous monitoring, and clear feedback.
Additionally, she underscored the importance of strong collaboration between council members and the administration to ensure policies are implemented effectively, without siloed working practices.
Aligned with the vision of a smart, sustainable, and prosperous Ipoh under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 agenda, MBI is expected to continue driving inclusive and competitive urban development.
The ceremony included the oath-taking by the Mayor, presentation of appointment letters, and a photo session to mark the beginning of their new responsibilities.
YB Sandrea Ng Shy Ching also congratulated all appointed council members and expressed hope that they will carry out their duties with integrity, sincerity, and teamwork for the well-being of the people and the continued progress of Ipoh City.
