Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic and professional relationships with media practitioners as key partners in the development and management of Ipoh City during the MBI Media Night 2025 at the Ipoh Convention Centre.
In his address, the Mayor of Ipoh, Y.Bhg. Tuan Zamakhshari bin Hanipah, emphasised that the Media Night was not merely an appreciation event, but an important platform to enhance mutual understanding, transparency and two-way cooperation between the local authority and the media for the benefit of the city’s residents. The event marked the first media programme organised by MBI since his appointment as Mayor.
He highlighted the importance of maintaining a cordial and professional relationship to ensure that information on city issues is communicated accurately, factually and responsibly. The Mayor also stressed that while freedom of expression is vital, it must be balanced with wisdom, responsibility and journalistic ethics, especially in Malaysia’s multicultural society.
The Mayor expressed appreciation to Ipoh-based media for their continued coverage of city developments and welcomed balanced, fact-based reporting. Looking ahead, MBI plans to organise more media engagement programmes in the coming year, including informal gatherings, friendly sports activities, media visits and the MBI Media Night 2026, to further strengthen collaboration.
He expressed hope that the MBI Media Night 2025 would serve as a starting point for closer cooperation between MBI and the media, contributing to a more liveable, sustainable and competitive Ipoh City.
