MBI Choir Team claimed victory at the Local Authority Choir Competition, securing the prestigious YAB Menteri Besar Perak Darul Ridzuan Cup for the year 2023 at Indera Mulia Stadium. The event, attended by Ipoh’s Mayor, featured 10 teams representing all 15 Local Authorities (PBTs) in Perak.
Additionally, the runner-up in the competition is the Tanjung Malim District Council, followed by the Taiping Municipal Council in 3rd place, while the Manjung Municipal Council is in 4th place.
As the host city, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) aimed to spark interest in choirs in Ipoh and bolster its development. This cultural event had far-reaching implications, elevating choral arts nationwide and boosting the performance and participation of choirs across Malaysia.
This aligns with the MBI’s vision of making Ipoh an art-centric city, fostering various artistic pursuits. To support this, the MBI has created Lorong Seni in Lorong Panglima, Ipoh, which currently operates on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, with the potential for expanded hours depending on demand.
Furthermore, Ipoh has a rich history of nurturing artistic talents, with renowned artists like Jamal Abdillah, Aris Ariwatan, ND Lala, as well as rock bands such as Kumpulan May.
The Local Authority Choir Competition aims to invigorate artistic endeavors, with a focus on unity, understanding, and solidarity among PBT choirs. Since this competition is set to be an annual event, it opens doors for other PBTs to embrace the opportunity to host it in the following years, coinciding with Visit Perak Year 2024.
