The Ipoh City Council said the bridge on Jalan Gurdwara in Buntong is safe for motorists to use.  Mohd Zamri Mohd,  City council chief assistant engineer, stated that a bridge inspection was done after a video circulating on social media claimed that the road on the bridge was cracked and unsafe.

When asked about the cracks on the bridge, he assured that the bearing below the bridge is still in good condition and the cracks pose no threat to its structure.

After visiting the bridge with Ipoh Barat MCA coordinator Low Guo Nan, councillor S. Jeyagopi, and representatives from Puncak Emas Infra Sdn. Bhd. Mohd Zamri Mohd said “we can assure you that the bridge remains structurally sound.”

Mohd Zamri also said road cracks are normal. He mention, the bridges frequently have a gap since they are constructed of multiple components. Extreme weather may cause the bearing, which is constructed of rubber and steel to expand, causing the bridge to shift slightly,  adding that the bridge was also more than 30 years old.

The city council will discuss with Puncak Emas Infra how to conceal the cracks. Clr. Jeyagopi alerted the city council earlier this year about the cracks, but it presented no threat, thus no further action was taken.
