The Ipoh City Council has successfully completed Phase 1 of the Night Gate Structure Construction Project on Dato Tahwil Azar Street, covering a distance of 185 meters and achieving full completion in April 2023.
Funding for this project was secured through the Perak State Government, which received a Special Grant from the Prime Minister in 2019 under the Federal Government’s Special Allocation Account, totaling RM2,600,000.00.
Additionally, the Ipoh City Council has allocated an extra RM300,000.00 for this project.
It’s important to note that a section of the Night Gate site (171 meters) could not be implemented due to insufficient funding compared to the total Night Gate site (356 meters).
The current project only considered the provision of heli fan plug points but did not include the installation of heli fans.
The Ipoh City Council has applied for funding for Phase 2 of the Night Gate Structure Construction, totaling RM4,250,000.00. This request has been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office through Reference Letter No. (122) in MBI F4/1/21/20 Volume 4 dated April 3, 2023, and to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture through Reference Letter No. (52) in MBI F4/1/21/20 Volume 5 dated August 28, 2023. The application involves the construction of Shade Structures, Electrical Works including the installation of heli fans, and the construction of pedestrian pathways.
As of now, the Ipoh City Council has not received approval for the funding of Phase 2 Shade Structure Construction, possibly due to the high value of the application. Therefore, the Council has also applied for funding under the BP1 Code of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, with a smaller amount of RM500,000.00, to enable the implementation of 2 bay structures, at least for the year 2024.
The Ipoh City Council hopes for the approval of the overall project funding according to the requested amount to enhance business activities in the Gerbang Malam, subsequently boosting the economy of Ipoh City and attracting more tourists to Ipoh.
