Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin @ Md Daud, the Mayor of Ipoh, officially launched the Cleanliness and Environmental Health Campaign for Schools at the Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (Ipoh City Council) level in 2023.
The objectives of this campaign are as follows:
- Raise awareness about food safety among students and encourage them to choose clean and nutritious food.
- Urge canteen operators to comply with food preparation requirements, such as wearing aprons and caps, and using touchless techniques.
- Enhance the knowledge of food handlers regarding food cleanliness and safety in schools.
- Provide information on dengue prevention and promote collaboration in addressing this disease within schools.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Convent has been recognized as the cleanest school for the year 2021/2022, setting an example for other schools in maintaining restroom cleanliness.
The Ministry of Education Malaysia has initiated the School Toilet Cleanliness Rating Program (PKTS) with technical assistance from Local Government Ministries (PBTs), including MB Ipoh.
The Ipoh City Council is committed to achieving a Low Carbon Mission of 45% by 2030 through recycling activities involving paper, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, e-waste, and used cooking oil.
All these efforts are positive steps towards fostering a culture of environmental sustainability and recycling awareness among students, aligning with the aspiration of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government to make public restrooms as clean, inviting, and fragrant as BMW (Clean, Beautiful, Fragrant).
This campaign marks the initial steps towards making Ipoh a Smart and Prosperous City and Perak a Prosperous State by 2030. We wish the campaign great success!
