Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud, the Mayor of Ipoh, held a morning press conference at the Amphitheatre, Laman Sejahtera, to announce the inaugural Musical Concert on February 8, 2024, in celebration of the Chinese New Year 2024 at Taman DR Seenivasagam, Ipoh.
The event was attended by Clr. Tuan Wong Kar Keat, Chief of WHIP MBI Council Members, Puan Normala binti Latiff, MBI Community Director, and Tuan Ir Ts. Arif bin Mohd Zainudin, MBI Works & Building Director.
The Amphitheatre, completed on March 1, 2023, is a project to utilize the open space of Taman D.R. Seenivasagam, located next to an artificial lake.
The Amphitheatre, an open-air stage accommodating 800 spectators, aligns with Ipoh’s recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Music on October 31, 2023. It aims to become a focal point for music and arts enthusiasts, promoting performance arts and emerging as a new tourist destination for both local and international visitors.
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture allocated RM250,000.00 for upgrading and enhancing lighting around the Amphitheatre, including the island area facing it, to create a more comfortable and safe environment for visitors at night. The upgrades are expected to be completed before the Musical Concert.
The Minister of KPKT, through the National Landscape Department, Ministry of Housing and Local Government, agreed to provide an additional RM500,000.00, and the Ipoh City Council committed an additional RM250,000.00. This brings the total additional funding to RM750,000.00, allocated for landscaping upgrades (RM250,000.00) and additional lighting (RM500,000.00) in the Taman D.R. Seenivasagam area, including the Amphitheatre, to attract art enthusiasts and visitors.
The Musical Concert, envisioned by Minister Tuan Nga Kor Ming, is scheduled for February 8, 2024, at 8:08 PM, expecting an audience of 8,000. The event will feature dragon and lion dance performances, traditional dances, Chinese song performances, orchestral performances, and fireworks. Food and beverages will be available through a food truck concept.
With the presence of the Amphitheatre, it is hoped to become another platform for artists in Ipoh to showcase their talents and artworks.
The Musical Concert program for the Chinese New Year 2024 will be held on February 8, 2024, starting at 8:08 PM, with an expected audience of up to 8,000 people.
