The Council received a total allocation of RM1,825,000.00 from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) for the implementation of the MyKiosk project in two phases, namely in 2023 and 2024. This project aims to curb unlicensed hawking activities, prioritize the safety and comfort of both hawkers and customers, and standardize the design of small hawker stalls within the Council’s area. In addition, it contributes to efforts to beautify the urban environment and provides a more organized and eco-friendly business space for local hawkers.

The implementation of this project was carried out through an open quotation method in accordance with government procurement procedures. Each work package was awarded to a different contractor, with each contractor responsible for fabrication works based on their own design and technical proposal submitted during the evaluation process. The kiosk suppliers also varied according to the individual contractor’s proposal.

For the first phase, the MyKiosk 1.0 project in 2023 received an allocation of RM825,000.00 involving the construction of 55 kiosks. The average cost per unit was RM15,000.00. The details of the awarded contract costs were as follows: one contract worth RM290,200 for 21 units, RM204,200 for 15 units, RM193,200 for 14 units, and RM69,000 for 5 units. All 55 units of MyKiosk 1.0 were fully installed and operational in the Meru area, Ipoh, by 2024.

For the second phase, the MyKiosk 2.0 project in 2024 received an allocation of RM1,000,000.00 for the construction of 40 kiosks, with the actual total cost amounting to RM963,500.30 and an average cost of RM25,000.00 per unit. The installation locations for MyKiosk 2.0 are as follows: 17 units at Jalan Jumbo Jet, which began operations in May 2025; 17 units at Station 18, which are currently undergoing defect rectification by the contractor before being handed over to the MBI Facility Management Department for the vendor allocation process; and 6 units at Jalan Ashby, which are currently in the site construction phase.

MyKiosk 2.0 is an upgraded version of MyKiosk 1.0 with several more efficient and modern features. These improvements include enhanced solar panel capacity to save on electricity usage, a more weather-resistant and leak-proof design, and better-organized functional options tailored for either Food & Beverage Kiosks or Multipurpose Kiosks. Unlike the more general design of MyKiosk 1.0, version 2.0 is more flexible and focused on the current needs of hawkers.

The Ipoh City Council extends its deepest appreciation to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) for its continuous support in urban community development through a hawker-friendly and inclusive approach. It is hoped that the MyKiosk project will continue to directly benefit small-scale hawkers and contribute to the creation of a more organized, clean, and competitive business environment in Ipoh City.
