Over eighty people from a community close to Kampar had to leave their homes.

Over eighty people from the nearby community of Kampung Sahom were displaced when a flash flood struck.

A spokeswoman for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department said the flood hit at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, adding that 10 homes were damaged by the flash flood that followed the heavy rain. The rain caused Sungai Rias to flood, cutting off the residents’ access to one another across the river.

He also said that the firefighters rescued six locals, including two children, by using ropes and floatation equipment. There were indications that the water level had increased to a height of 7 metres, he said.

According to the spokeswoman, all eighty-four victims were successfully rescued and sent to a makeshift shelter in SK Sahom.
